This episode is different from the usual interview episodes you find on our channel. Our intention with this episode is to invite you to learn and grow with us as we tackle a topic that is incredibly complex.
We hope you appreciate this episode for what it is: An honest account into our ambitions for this Season of #impact, our most global yet, with our team based in Hong Kong, Honolulu, Sydney, New York and Berlin.
“I had sleepless nights going over the storyline for this episode. I planned to record it weeks ago, but I kept pushing it back. I felt the stakes were too high. This is my chance to take you on a journey of impact. But what if I fail?”
Regina Larko, #impact
#impact founder Regina Larko went into the planning of this Season with wrong expectations. The experts you will hear from in this episode, helped her get a deeper, richer understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals.
As you listen in, you will find yourself gaining new perspectives of the SDGs too. All of a sudden, they won’t feel like a distant set of goals anymore, but instead, they can be understood for what they are:
A universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
Though abstract, and sometimes hard to grasp, we will break the Global Goals down for you, not just in this episode, but in all the ones that will follow, so you can find touchpoints with your own life as you listen to the voices of our inspiring guests.
“Today in 2020, 10 years down the final goal of the 2030 agenda, we are even battling more of the symptoms of that complexity of the world. And the excitement on our part is to see how far along can we really change because we only get one shot.”
Pat Dwyer, The Purpose Business
We only get one shot
This episode is our shot to get you on board for #impact Season 5. It is only 20 minutes long, but it has been one year in the making. We started preparing for this Season in autumn 2019.
Starting from spring 2020 we aired teaser episodes as we went through our #impact Podcast archives, made new connections and experiences. All of that encouraged us to keep asking our guests hard questions:
How are they measuring impact? Why do they care about the SDGs? How exactly are they tackling them? What worked? What didn’t? In our conversations, we want to find out what keeps them going, even if, at times, all odds seem to be against them.
There’s so much to learn from our guests’ experiences. And with each episode, we will all gain a richer understanding of the Global Goals, and our role in them as well.
A year unlike any other
In November 2019, when we started to prepare for this Season, the world looked very different from today. The challenges and changes that the global pandemic brought us in 2020 will be addressed throughout this Season of #impact. Episodes like this one highlight how charities have been coping and pivoting during the global pandemic.
Our impact
We don’t just ask our guests hard questions. We ask them ourselves too. We are proud that what started in Regina’s tiny Hong Kong bedroom in 2016, has already brought our loyal listeners 100+ episodes as we went on air for 72+hours for social good.
We covered everything from social justice to sustainability, from mental health to equality and so much more. Our listeners started volunteering for organisations we featured, our featured guests went from strength to strength, growing their impact. We connected many of our guests with each other so they could find more collaboration opportunities. We recorded live and on rooftops.
We have inspired dozens of other purpose-driven Podcasters to start their own Podcast production, among them Nonprofits that can now leverage their Podcast to gain sponsors and sustain their operations.
We are learning as we go. There are twists and turns, progress and setbacks along the way. Our vision to leverage the power of voice to drive positive change will guide us as we bring you this brand new Season. Thank you for listening and Thank you for being part of our community.
