I have personally struggled with the idea of having a community because I felt like I didn’t belong in any community that was presented to me.
Moving away from home, and starting a new life abroad, it occurred to me, why don’t I just make my own? A group of people from different places, experiences, and ideas that can all come together and support each other through our journey in university.
While many of us don’t know each other as well as some, we aim to love, support and help others grow in any way possible. I was fortunate enough to have a community that made a huge impact on my life that gave me the confidence to try new things, focus on self-development, and empower others.
This, for me, is the true meaning of a community, helping others to make an impact which in turn helps us. Though that does sound a little complicated, communities are built this way, but they allow us to navigate these challenges life presents us with together.
Making an impact in a community means that we are able to elevate and amplify each other’s voices and actions that can support our own and other communities.
One question that arises from this discussion is “How can we encourage others to make an impact and empower other communities?”
It can be difficult to reach and connect with other communities as key differences exist that distinguish us. However, if we focus on what unites us and how it has benefited our communities we can share those successes with others to inspire and ignite impact.
With that, I inspire you to encourage, support, and uplift your respective communities to make an impact that further inspires others.
