Join us to celebrate the #impact Podcast Season 2 Finale.
#impact Podcast Founder Regina Larko finds herself in the hot seat when Amanda Williams, Co-Host of #impact Podcast asks her about highlights of Season 2, dream guests, and where this journey is headed.
In this Episode, you learn
- why having a Niche is overrated.
- how to grow and engage a community of changemakers.
- which strategies Regina has to connect with her guests and make them feel comfortable to share their stories.
- when Coldplay will feature on #impact Podcast.
Finding stories and guests
Stories and people often find Regina. The more people she interviews, the more people there are to interview. Every guest has another great recommendation who should be featured on the show.
“There wasn’t too much of a strategy.”
Yes, there were some changes when it comes to the format of the show in Season 2 like including that precious Quick Fire Round that is now a constant feature of all episode when asking our guests that one big final question “What could everyone do right now to make the world a better place?” Regina decided to make this adaption with rounding off each interview with this question after receiving valuable feedback from listeners after the Season 1 Finale. Back then, in summer 2017, Regina shared why and how she started #impact Podcast.
Are we running out of guests?
Episode 45 and counting, Regina is convinced that #impact Podcast is not going to run out of guests anytime soon. Rather the opposite:
“I can not keep up!”
Not a one-time thing: Regina’s relationship with her guests
In Season 2 Regina also checked in with former guests of #impact Podcast like Jamie Chiu who she bumped into at a community event at the social innovation hub Dream Impact. Regina also joined Sarah Fowler and Belinda Poole’s official launch of Locomotion’s brilliant skills-based volunteering platform. She followed Jeff Rotmeyer on one of his ImpactHK Kindness Walks and celebrated International Volunteers Day with Sue Toomey and the HandsOn Hong Kong team.
“They keep hearing from me”
Coming on #impact Podcast means joining a community of changemakers that support each other. Regina stays in touch with all her guests and they keep getting regular updates from her and – come Christmas – even a rhyme dedicated to them.
“I want my guests to feel safe with what they share”
About having a NICHE and ticking all the boxes for marketing disaster
With #impact Podcast covering so many different topics and industries, from community service and engagement to health, education, environment, wellbeing, featuring social entrepreneurs and charities just starting out, just as well as more established NGOs and changemakers, some might say Regina is ticking all the boxes for a marketing disaster, having forgotten to narrow down her niche.
But this is not how Regina sees it.
“ALL these topics are so relevant. My niche is making the world a better place.”
Growing the community as well as the Profile for Podcasts
Regina is thrilled that the #impact community and audience is growing. Volunteers like Samantha Aloysius, stepping out of her comfort zone, have reached out to support #impact Podcast and recently Ana Perez started volunteering as a Social Media Content Support for #impact Podcast.
Regina is excited that #impact Podcast has also gotten on the radar of Podcast lovers and was featured in the media. She also had the chance to share her vision about the Power of Audio speaking at a TEDxHongKong MainStage event in December 2017. We hear the video is coming soon.
Looking ahead – More Podcasts coming out of Hong Kong and launching Season 3
Over these last few months, Regina has been approached by many people who also believe in the format of audio storytelling and want to start their own Podcast. Regina is eager to support these new aspiring Podcasters to have a good and smooth start when setting up their show and will run Podcasting Workshops after returning from her maternity leave in autumn.
The Podcasting Community – an amazing bunch!
Regina is also excited that she was able to connect with other Podcasters based in Hong Kong, that are running wonderful shows, like Simon from Hong Kong Writers Circle, Jules from Hong Kong Confidential, Sarah from Better in Bed and Amanda from Wellpreneur Podcast. But also looking outside of Hong Kong, the global Podcasting community is an amazing bunch. Regina is grateful that she could connect with Podcasters all over the globe, like Amel from the Tandem Nomads Podcast, Jeremy who is running Rain City Scoop, and John from Moving Forward Podcast.
Juggling Family and Work
Regina loves her work but now it is time for her to take a step back from the microphone when she gets ready to welcome her second daughter into the world that is expected to arrive around mid-March 2018.
The show will go on! #impactPodcast #season3 kicking off #march8 Share on X
Although Regina will be physically out for a while, taking care of her newborn and 2-year-old daughter, but worry not, the show will go on. Regina has been busy pre-recording wonderfully inspiring interviews with amazing changemakers for upcoming Season 3 (launching March 8, 2018!!!) that – though they all work in so many different fields – all share one thing.
