“She is crazy! But in an amazing way.” This Is what Hannah Lane, Communications and Sponsorship Director of Redress, an environmental NGO, says about Redress founder Christina Dean.
Christina is the heart and soul of Redress. For the past 10 years, she and her team have been working to reduce waste in the fashion industry.
There would be many awards and recognitions to list when talking about Christina, Redress and their EcoChic Design Award that has been making a mark at Hong Kong Fashion week for the past 6 years, educating a new generation of responsible designers.
Christina is nominated for the Women of Hope Award (check out category 4!), her Ted Talk “You are what you wear” has been watched more than 200.000 times and she has been voted as one of the UK Vogue’s Top 30 Inspirational Women.
People that know and work with Christina use these adjectives to describe her:
She is driven. She is contagiously passionate. She’s genuine. She is inspiring.
“I am crazy”, Christina adds, “and that’s fine because my craziness sometimes materializes into something.”
She shares how her dumpster diving experience and her shocking trips to landfills lead her doing a 365 challenge dressing in discarded clothes out of the bin for a full year. It taught her that we need to think differently about the way we consume.
In this live Podcast recording, you find out what you can do to make your wardrobe more sustainable, why Christina is so passionate about the cause, what led her from being a dentist to turning to journalism and ultimately starting Redress and why she sets out to prove that Fashion can be a force for good.
“Waste is not waste until it’s wasted” she says.
Christina shares why having empathy is so important and why Redress is passionate about their impactful education programs showcasing and educating the next generation of designers with the EcoChic Design Awards.
It all starts with bold ideas, and Christina is not short of them. But hear for yourself in this live recording.
