Meet Sarah Fung, Founder of HULA. We recorded at Sarah’s gorgeous studio surrounded by beautiful pre-loved designer garments. Textiles waste is the second largest pollutant worldwide. HULA’s mission is to promote buying better quality pieces so they last longer and can be passed on.
Sarah has always been passionate about DIY and craft. Find out how she made the move from working for a luxury retailer in Hong Kong to starting up her own responsible business.
Sarah dreams big.
She wants to be the leading online resell store in Asia, and in the world for that matter. Whilst dreaming big, she appreciates the little milestones along the way and is happy about each individual encounter changing people’s minds about the way they consume fashion and their attitudes towards second-hand clothing. A mission that is particularly challenging in Asia.
5% of HULAs profits are donated back to partnered charities, like Redress. We discuss the causes HULA supports and why they picked them.
We also end up talking about childhood memories, Austrians and their quirkiness, Viennese cuisine as well as the challenging transition from her UK home to Hong Kong where her roots are. Find out what drives Sarah and why she always had a notion that she wanted to change something and how her being disruptive compliments that.
Wanting to do things her own way, suited taking on an entrepreneurial journey.
Of course, we also talk about fashion.
“I like fashion because it pushes boundaries.” she says but she often felt frustrated with the way fashion is consumed and the wasteful footprint the industry leaves. Christina Dean, Founder of Redress, an environmental NGO made a big impression on her. After Sarah shared how inspired she felt by the work Redress is doing, the wheels for #impact Podcast’s first live recording where put in motion. Here you find a Behind the Scenes Special about the Making of Fashion with #impact.
